Educator's Nature Journaling Workshop

The Australian Nature Journaling Association (ANJA) is offering a Pre-Conference Educator's Nature Journaling Workshop with experienced nature journaler Julia Landford.

This three-hour professional development workshop will provide an overview of nature journaling practice and its importance for building student awareness of the environment through immersive experiences. This session will also highlight the mental health and wellbeing benefits for students of connecting with nature and using creative practices for observation and mindfulness. The session will include a presentation on nature journaling and a practical session for teachers and home-schooling parents to experience a nature journaling at the Queensland Museum natural history collection.

About the Facilitator: 

Julia Landford is the Founding President of the Australian Nature Journaling Association. She is also the Founder and Director of NatureArt Lab, a multi-award-winning arts and environmental education organisation in Australia. Julia has been teaching nature journaling in Australia since 2018, and is passionate about nature and environmental education through creative arts and photography practices.  Through her work with NatureArt Lab she has developed a nature journaling curriculum and educational products with a focus on ecosystems and environmental advocacy. 

Julia has a professional teaching background, and is a member of the Australian Association of Environmental Educators (AAEE), and former Vice-President for the ACT Chapter. Over the past six years Julia has contributed to national policy forums, senate enquiries on sustainability in schools and national Learning Circles for educators in Australia. Julia's career includes executive level roles with the Commonwealth Public Service in AusAID and DFAT, as well as the United Nations, specialising in international development policy and practice across the South-East Asia and Pacific regions. Julia was also the lead author for a global pandemic preparedness publication for the United Nations. 

The Australian Nature Journaling Association is based on membership to promote networks with an interest in nature journaling, environmental education and greater awareness of nature.
